Off to Edinburgh on Friday. Meeting best friends Mike and Kay from Kirkhill, north of Inverness. I need photos of Edinburgh for a show that we are doing there at the end of November and our local guides will be able to show us the key sites much better than any guide book, as well as the best pubs of course! Be good to catch up with them as it's been a year since we last saw them, in the Yorkshire Dales. We will also be seeing our good friend Paul from Boulder who is over for a couple of weeks travelling around.
Fingers crossed that the weather is kind to us rather than the tropical storms that we have been having here in the Peak District recently. Such heavy rain in short periods, we're more used to lighter rain for hours than this! Hope to drop some new pics here next week. Dave Butcher

Great Dome Art Fair
The Great Dome Art Fair is over for another year. It was great to see lots of old friends and meet so many new ones.
I tweaked my back this morning before show opening so was pretty much drugged up the whole day. Managed to get through the day though but felt spaced out the whole day.if I spoke to you hope I was intelligible!
I also owe you an apology if you came to see my lecture at 2pm on Saturday, as I stated on my web site. Unfortunately, I had the wrong time. My talk was actually at 11.30am. My mistake. Sorry. Hope you can catch me somewhere else.
Off to Edinburgh next weekend for a photo trip. Hope the weather is good.

New Swiss Black & White Images
Hot Air Balloons in the dark at Chateau d'Oex and the Alpine Pass Route around Kandersteg are just 2 of the areas covered in this new set of photographs. The Balloon Festival is at the end of january every year and lasts 9 days, with the last Friday being a 'Night Glow' choreographed light and firework show using balloons at night. Very impressive, shame about the low cloud! Lots of other shots from ski areas around here including Gstaad, Diablerets and Villars to follow. Watch this space!
The first shots from the Alpine Pass Route section from Grindelwald to Montreux will be on the site by 23rd July. They include the peaks around Kandersteg from both sides of the valley, including Bunderchrinde and the view on to Adelboden. The rest of the trip will be added over the next few weeks.

New Austria Black and White Photos
Finally, I have scanned and edited some images from a ski mountaineering trip to the Otztal region of Austria that I made in 1994. There are shots from several summits including the highest in the region, Wild Spitz. Taken over 6 days in March 1994 with Jon de Montjoye as guide we managed 5 peaks in 6 days and had a great time. I have added quite a few Lake District black and white photographs to the new web site. Locations include the Langdales, Elterwater, Grasmere, Rydal Water, Derwent Water, Castlerigg stone circle, Scafell, Scafell Pike, Skiddaw, Blencathra and the Bowfell range. Both summer and snowy winter shots are covered. Some of these will be going in to my third book due out in March 2010. Lots more Lake District pictures to follow.

New Black and White Photographs of Ireland
My new web site now has a small number of black and white photographs from a recent trip to Ireland. Images of Dublin (see photo), Cork and County Kerry are included. The trip was based around an order for photographs of Carrauntoohil (see photo), the highest mountain in Ireland, and writing an article for Black and White Photography magazine. It was a very wet trip, lots of rain and low cloud but still gave me some good shots. Here is a taster of the set. More to come so keep an eye on the web site.

New Web Site Is LIVE
At long last my new web site has gone live. It has a full shopping cart, rapid keyword search system, my events diary to the end of 2010 and beyond and lots of other things. It will let me add many more images than the current site without looking overloaded. Let me know what you think of it and I hope you like it.
Just preparing for an art fair in Buxton tomorrow, in the Pavilion Gardens. Come along if you can, free entrance and the show is open 10 am to 4.30 pm.
Still 2 places on the July 11th Landscape Photography course if you are interested.
Looks like the good weather of the last few days has broken today. Very heavy showers of rain with thunder and lightning and 10C cooler.
